Seth Bauserman is an American artist based in Virginia, working primarily in layered, mixed-media compositions on paper. He earned his BFA from James Madison University, where he developed a foundation in drawing and material exploration that continues to inform his process-driven approach.

Bauserman has exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions across the United States and internationally, building a practice recognized for its raw, gestural language and emphasis on accumulation and erasure. In 2017, he was awarded a fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, acknowledging the strength and potential of his work. His pieces are held in private collections, and his practice continues to evolve through a sustained engagement with paper as both surface and subject, reflecting an ongoing investigation into perception, memory, and the tension between clarity and obscurity

Seth Bauserman (b. 1989) makes paintings that look like they’ve survived something—scraped, taped, sanded, bruised sheets of paper that have been pushed to their material limits. The layers build and gather only to be peeled back again, leaving marks, hints, and faint impressions of decisions underneath. In his work, these layers of paper become something more than a surface for marks. They are characters: vulnerable, stubborn, sometimes barely holding it together.
